Determination of Shock Standoff Distance for Wedge at Supersonic Flow
An experimental investigation is conducted to calculate the shock standoff (SSO) distance in front of an acute-angled wedge. For this experimentation, simple water flows channel analysis is carried out. The flow velocity is varied from 13.2 cm/s to 25.5 cm/s increasing in steps of 1 cm/s. A velocity of 13.2 cm/s corresponds to Froude number 1.13 and velocity of 25.5 cm/s to Froude number 1.41. ...
متن کاملShock Motion and Flow Instabilities in Supersonic Nozzle Flow Separation
This study evaluates the role of shock wave motion on the instability of the plume exiting an over-expanded, convergent-divergent nozzle. An array of wall pressure transducers was used to track the position of the shock in time, and a Pitot probe was used to obtain simultaneous measurement of the total pressure fluctuations at various points in the jet that emerges from the separation shock. An...
متن کاملThe shock waves in decaying supersonic turbulence
We here analyse numerical simulations of supersonic, hypersonic and magnetohydrodynamic turbulence that is free to decay. Our goals are to understand the dynamics of the decay and the characteristic properties of the shock waves produced. This will be useful for interpretation of observations of both motions in molecular clouds and sources of non-thermal radiation. We find that decaying hyperso...
متن کاملSpatial dispersive shock waves generated in supersonic flow of Bose-Einstein condensate past slender body
Supersonic flow of Bose-Einstein condensate past macroscopic obstacles is studied theoretically. It is shown that in the case of large obstacles the Cherenkov cone transforms into a stationary spatial shock wave which consists of a number of spatial dark solitons. Analytical theory is developed for the case of obstacles having a form of a slender body. This theory explains qualitatively the pro...
متن کاملAnalysis on Linear Stability of Oblique Shock Waves in Steady Supersonic Flow
An attached oblique shock wave is generated when a sharp solid projectile flies supersonically in the air. We study the linear stability of oblique shock waves in steady supersonic flow under three dimensional perturbation in the incoming flow. Euler system of equations for isentropic gas model is used. The linear stability is established for shock front with supersonic downstream flow, in addi...
